Discover the archaeology of Holyrood Park and how humans have shaped it

Holyrood Park is a unique rugged landscape in the heart of the city. To many it offers an escape into nature, yet every bit of it has been shaped by over 8000 years of human use. Hear about the history and archaeology of the park, how humans have transformed the landscape from prehistory to the present day. Learn of recent discoveries, and how HES is working to conserve and celebrate its rich heritage.

Rachel Pickering is an archaeologist, working in HES’ Cultural Resources Team. As Senior Cultural Resources Advisor she is responsible for providing archaeological and historical advice on Historic Environment Properties in the Edinburgh region. This includes managing research projects, advising on archaeological matters relating to the sites in care, and contributing to interpretation projects. She has over 10 years experience as an advisor for Holyrood Park.
