Legacy and Light: Stained Glass in Scotland

Join us for a day of discovery and dialogue, bridging Scotland's stained glass past with its sustainable future.

Please note, full-day tickets have sold out for this event.

Come along to a compelling event where the preservation and appreciation of Scottish stained glass will take centre stage.

Historic Environment Scotland is proud to collaborate with Rainbow Glass Studio Ltd and ICON, the Institute of Conservation, for this event. Following a warm welcome from postgraduate student and conservator Vivienne Kelly, leading experts Moira Malcolm and Chris Chesney ACR will delve into the intrinsic value of Scotland's stained glass heritage, address its current vulnerabilities, and present strategic solutions to avert its endangerment.

Using the discovery of enchanting Renaissance glass at Taymouth Castle as a case study, Zoe Harrigan will then provide fresh insights from recent research, joined by Stephen Malcolm who will share innovative preservation methods within architectural context.

A networking lunch will provide you with the opportunity to continue discussions and explore the Engine Shed, including a display of stained glass panels and tools.

In the afternoon, Rona Moody will lead a tour to the Church of the Holy Rude, Stirling, to showcase works by celebrated artists. Rab McInnes ACR will then guide the tour through Stirling Castle, highlighting the meticulous restoration underway.

This event is affiliated with ICON and the Scottish Stained Glass Trust.
