Historic Tales of New Abbey

Visit the conservation village of New Abbey to hear some of its historical tales. A chance to visit Sweetheart Abbey, New Abbey Corn Mill and Shambellie House for free thanks to support from Dumfries and Galloway Cultural Fund and Shambellie House.

Take yourself on a walking tour of New Abbey to discover this fascinating village. Learn about the history of Sweetheart Abbey and Lady Devorgilla, New Abbey Corn Mill, and Shambellie House and the Stewart Family.

The day offers the chance to visit all three historic buildings for free, walking on the new footpath linking the village to Shambellie House. There will be re-enactors and guides at all three locations to bring the history to life with a map and guides to help. Once you have dropped in to each location you will you will begin to understand the history of this special conservation village and how it has come to be.

Book for Storytelling with Bruce’s Trust at Sweetheart Abbey which will take place at 11am and 1pm, otherwise drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm to enjoy a historical day out.

Refreshments will be available at Shambellie House and the local café and shop will be open.
