Creative Mapping and Book Binding

Artists from Circus Artspace will introduce you to different methods of responding creatively to places and to the book-binding techniques you can use to make your own simple books, maps and zines.

Glenurquhart is saturated in archaeological sites, stories and place-names that give us insight into how people have lived in and with this landscape. With ancient woodlands, burial sites, chambered cairns, bridges and pathways throughout the area, you will use existing maps, photographs and text as inspiration and choose your own interests for mapping.

Alternatively, participants are welcome to bring material about an area familiar to them. We will be based at Urquhart Castle for the session and if the weather is good, we will spend a little time outside in the castle grounds to get a feel for the area from this special vantage point.

You will end the day with your own unique mapping project, in the form of a hand-bound book.
